Knocked Loose appeared on ABC's Late Night show on Tuesday (November 26), performing in support of their third album, You won't go before you're supposed to. Although the record achieved significant success topping the Top Hard Rock Albums chart and peaking at No. 23 on the Billboard 200, the band's debut on the program garnered critical attention thereafter.
Given the band's status as arguably the heaviest band to come out Kimmelpublications such as The Mirror claimed that some fans are criticizing their performance on social media – which included 'Suffocate' with Poppy.
“You know I was trying to enjoy the program,” one viral comment wrote. “I was sitting on the sofa with my son who is a teenager and I'm waiting to see the musical guest because we like the nice music that the show usually does.
“By the third or fourth 'JUNT' of the guitars my son was in tears. He doesn't like scary stuff, and I honestly think Kimmel's show and his staff should issue a formal apology.”
Having attracted ridicule from the punk community and the band's fans, lead singer Bryan Garris has now he responded in the team's appearance, reflecting the vast experience and how the team has evolved to such a point.
“Our goal for a long time has been to see how far we can squeeze this band into places where we don't fit, and I think this might be the biggest one. National TV,” Garris wrote. “It feels like the cap is going up for EVERYONE, every day. We celebrate it together. Thank you very much.
“Walking down the aisle as we were escorted on stage, I look to my left and right and see pictures of all the celebrities who have been on the show over the years,” she added. “Presidents, actors, musicians, etc. I bent over [Isaac Hale, guitarist] and said 'this started in your garage'” He grabbed me and squeezed me as hard as he could. This is a moment I will never forget.”
Closing out his post, Garris gave a quick shout-out to those who had responded negatively to the band's performance, simply adding, “PS if it scared you, fine.”
Talking to you Bulletin board earlier this year, Garris admitted that the group's continued and unexpected rise is not something Knocked Loose take for granted. “Every time we headline,” he reflected, “it's like Where can we take it now? What is the next step?“
