Kourtney Kardashian opens up about emergency fetal surgery in new 'The Kardashians' trailer: Watch

Its upcoming fifth season The Kardashians has been described as featuring Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker's “new baby happiness” following the birth of their first child, a son named Rocky Thirteen, in November. But it will also chronicle the reality star's terrifying experience with emergency fetal surgery leading up to the big day, as revealed in a new trailer for the show.

The teaser, revealed on Wednesday (May 8), features clips of Kourtney cuddling the Blink-182 rocker, seemingly backstage at one of his concerts, and later enjoying a Disney-themed baby shower with her husband during her pregnancy. “This is the best blessing in the world,” says the founder of Poosh. “But it's also a high-risk pregnancy.”

Later in the trailer, Kourtney is lying in a hospital gown, holding what looks like Barker's tattooed hand. “I had to go in for fetal surgery, which was terrifying,” she explains.

Its season five The Kardashians premieres May 23 on Hulu, marking two years since the family dynasty transitioned from its long-running reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians a!. The trailer also promises to explore matriarch Kris Jenner's health struggles, Khloé Kardashian's newfound independence after splitting from Tristan Thompson, Kendall and Kylie Jenner's time at fashion week, and more.

The show won't be the first time Kourtney has opened up about her emergency surgery. She first revealed on Instagram in September that she had undergone surgery, thanking her “incredible doctors for saving our baby's life”.

At the time, Barker had dropped everything to come home from his world tour with Blink-182, who postponed three shows so the drummer could be with Kourtney during the process. “I am eternally grateful to my husband for rushing to my side from the tour to be with me in the hospital and take care of me afterwards, my rock,” she added in her post.
