Kristen Wiig has officially joined the Five-Timers Club at Saturday night live.
The actress and comedian returned to Studio 8H on April 6, marking her fifth time hosting the long-running sketch comedy show. During her opening monologue, the Palm Royale The star was welcomed into the famous fold by some huge celebrities – many of whom weren't actually Five-Timers themselves.
The cameo-filled segment kicked off with Paul Rudd, who appeared from the audience wearing a Five-Timers Club jacket he received in 2021. “I also heard a rumor that you might do one of those Five-Timers skits with amazing celebrity cameos ,” The Ant man the actor told Wiig. “So is there a script or something I could look at for this?”
After Wiig broke the news that tonight's episode would not include a Five-Timers Club skit, the former SNL Writer Paula Pell stood up and noted that the NBC show is handing out Five-Timers Club jackets “to everyone like free maxi pads.” Proving her point, Matt Damon showed up wearing one of the dark blue coats despite only hosting SNL twice.
Damon bragged about that SNL Creator Lorne Michaels told him “the first time I hosted was so good, it counted for three. Second time, not so good, it only counted for two, but with my math, it's five, baby!”
Wiig then wondered if the Five-Timers Club had any other meaning before the camera cut to Michaels flanked by Jon Hamm, Fred Armisen, Will Forte and Martin Short – all of whom donned the jackets despite not having hosted five times. “Together, we've hosted five times,” Forte said.
As the monologue came to a close, with Wiig being serenaded by celebrities, Ryan Gosling — who is set to host next week SNL — made a cameo wearing the Five-Timers coat, even though he hasn't hosted that many times. “Are you sure?” The Barbie star Michaels asked. “I mean, I haven't hosted three times yet. It seems unfair.”
The monologue ended with Gosling giving Wiig her very own Five-Timers jacket.
Earlier in the show, English singer RAYE made her musical guest debut SNLperforming a pair of songs from her Brit Award-winning debut album, My 21st Century Blues.
