Kygo's self-titled world tour is about more than one man. Their story can't be told without collaboration, a plot point the legendary producer is highlighting around the world.
Kygo touched down in Vancouver, British Columbia, on October 10 as part of the ongoing Kygo World Tour. The Norwegian DJ packed light and brought several friends with whom he has created global dance hits.
Collaborators Parson James, Justin Jesso and Zak Abel performed in Vancouver, as did dance music producer Vandelux and chart-topping singer Zara Larsson. Most tour dates are supported by two of the following eight musicians: Sam Feldt, Larsson, Gryffin, Sofi Tukker, HAYLA, Vandelux, Victoria Nadine and Klangkarussell.
Kygo sprinkled intimate moments with the audience while sharing the spotlight. He regularly played an electronic keyboard during his performance, but drew the most attention when he was seated front and center at the grand piano.
His piano licks were a frequent highlight, especially when accompanied by singers or an impressive sextet of violinists. The grand finale incorporated many of these elements with the addition of marching percussionists.
Kygo's production included two lifting platforms, pyrotechnics, lasers, confetti and crowd bracelets with synchronized lights. Thursday's headliner shared the richness of these production elements. Each collaborator had a standout moment during the show.
Jesso performed several songs, including their 2017 collaboration, “Stargazing.” A highlight was when he invited a fan (shout out to Jessica) to the stage to perform the song and jam with the musical duo. James received the awards show treatment as a camera followed him from backstage at Rogers Arena to the stage as he performed his global hit “Stole the Show.”
Abel performed “Freedom” and “For Life” with Kygo. Arguably the most memorable image from the show saw Kygo and Abel playing the piano and singing, respectively, on an elevated platform while lasers projected a cone around them.
Kygo is one of the most recognized electronic musicians worldwide and has multiple songs that exceed one billion views on Spotify. Kygo acknowledges his wide reach with a wonderful variety act. Timeless dance music tracks, pyrotechnics, live singers and instrumentalists and, in Larsson's case, a full-blown pop concert come together seamlessly. There is something for everyone.
If you head out on Kygo's tour to sing your heart out to “It Ain't Me” or “Higher Love,” you won't be disappointed but rewarded tenfold. The tour celebrates an extraordinary 11-year career and recognizes that success is not built alone. After all, a party is more fun with friends.
