Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts is a huge Ice Cube fan and showed off the dance moves for the West Coast icon's performance at last week's World Series celebration.
Roberts joined Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts At the Base podcast earlier this week, where he joked with his manager that he was a backup dancer on Cube's next tour after playing with him at the Dodger Stadium party after the team won the World Series.
“I think I'm blacking out. That's where my ass fell,” Roberts said. “I would love to go on tour with Ice Cube. I'm telling you Mookie, this took me back to 1988 when I had a red Nissan Sentra and I had my two 10s in a wooden box.”
And he continued: “That's what you did the other day. You used to build a box and put your woofers in the trunk and your license plate would go off… I was listening to NWA and Ice Cube all day, so it kind of took me back.”
Roberts, Betts and the Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in five games to win the 2024 World Series. It's Los Angeles' first title since 2020, but the franchise's first parade through the City of Angels since 1988 because of the restrictions of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.
Cube, who is a die-hard Dodger fan, fired up the Los Angeles faithful before Game 2 where he performed “It Was A Good Day” and “Bow Down.”
The West Coast legend proved to be a charm as the team went up 2-0 over the Yankees. NYY countered with Fat Joe, who didn't give the same luck to the Evil Empire. Dodgers shortstop Kike Hernandez poked fun at Joey Crack's performance while speaking at the parade.
“Then we go to New York, and this guy, he was fat and he's not fat anymore. His name is Joe. He came out and sang and we didn't have to perform anymore because after that performance we had already won.” he said.
