La India, Oscar D'León and more deliver Fania's dazzling tribute to Premios Juventud 2024

The stage was set for a monumental tribute to Premios Juventud 2024, as the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot came alive to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Fania Records. The tribute not only revisited Fania's indelible mark on music but also the enduring influence of her legendary icons Willie Colón, Celia Cruz, Héctor Lavoe and Tito Puente.

Kicking off the mix with Tito Puente's seminal 'Oye Como Va', legendary Venezuelan Oscar D'León delivered a powerful performance from the get-go, rocking a yellow metal suit.

Meanwhile, salsa producer/keyboardist Sergio George and Peruvian-American percussionist Tony Succa and Tito Puente Jr. they accompanied him, and finally the rest of the singers who went up to the first stage.

The set continued to dazzle as Anitta, in a sparkling mustard dress, delivered a passionate rendition of La Lupe's “Fiebre.” Tener fevere no es de ahora, hace mucho tiempo que empenza Hey!» she belted out, surrounded by men in black lace shirts.

A highlight came when La India – a powerhouse that has famously reimagined Celia Cruz's transcendent hits – not only sang “Quimbara” but sang one hell of a smasher salsa. “Le canto a la reina de la salsa, Celia Cruz, a la estrella de la Fania,she shouted.

Next, Puerto Rican singer Luis Figueroa took the stage, wearing a glittering dark suit, to deliver Willie Colón and Héctor Lavoe's “Aguanile.” Ivy Queen with her long blonde hair sang “Mi Gente” by Héctor Lavoe.

“Not only did Fania All-Stars make musical history, but it brought people of different cultures and backgrounds together, and through the power of salsa, they made history,” host/superstar Wisin said before the star-studded tribute.

As fans young and old were reminded of Fania's radical origins and her role in promoting Latin music on the world stage, the award ceremony highlighted the legendary label's timeless appeal and cultural significance.
