The 2024 Latin American Music Awards take place this Thursday, April 25, live from Las Vegas on Univision. Before all the glitz and glam, Advertising sign was backstage at rehearsals catching up with some of the night's nominees and performers.
Under the theme “We Speak Música,” the award ceremony will air its first bilingual edition with co-hosts Thalia, Becky G, Alejandra Espinoza and Carlos Ponce. This year's top contenders are Feid and Peso Pluma with 12 nods each. Meanwhile, Banda MS, Ricardo Montaner and Yandel will be honored with special tributes and awards.
The Latin AMAs will air live at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, April 25, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas via Univision, UNIMÁS, Galavisión and ViX.
Below, see some of the best moments during rehearsals:
New albums galore
Backstage at the rehearsals, a few artists revealed that they will be releasing new albums this year. Danny Ocean, for example, talked about his upcoming Reflexa, which he described as a very personal process of reflecting on his life and the future of his career. Farruko, on the other hand, explained that he will premiere a song with Ky-Mani Marley at the 2024 Latin AMAs, marking the first single from his upcoming studio album.
Meanwhile, Wisin is about to drop his own project called Mr. W this week, where he joined colleagues such as Don Omar, Yandel, Pedro Capo, Mora and Jowell y Randy. “Making music for me is not a job, it's a pleasure,” he says Advertising sign. “I love going to the studio and being able to collaborate. I love breaking barriers in music. I think that's what my album is about.”
Los Avengers are back
In their comeback season, Los Avengers will perform at the 2024 Latin AMAs. Four of the members of the reggaetón collective—Justin Quiles, Sech, Dalex, and Dimelo Flow—were at rehearsals talking about their new album. The Academy: Segunda Missionand their long-awaited evening.
“We moved 2019 to 2024, a bit more advanced with new music,” says Quiles Advertising sign. “The same team. Good energy, good music. Every time we get together, it's organic.” Sech, who took a break from music and social media, couldn't contain his excitement. “I was working on myself. Life moves very fast. I was organizing by myself but we managed to have an incredible time with the boys”, he notes.
AB Quintanilla's Sweet Initiative
AB Quintanilla, who will be part of the Banda MS tribute show, used his platform to talk about a heartfelt initiative he has made with his latest single, “El Rey de la Kumbia”, which he worked on more than from a year with the late artist, Lefty SM. “The beautiful thing about this song is that the label and I agreed that the finances of the song, the publishing, everything else, would go to his wife and kids. So, it's good to give back,” he expresses.
Yandel talks to Feid Bromance
Yandel was in attendance at the Latin AMAs, where he's set to receive a special award as one of the pioneers of the reggaetón movement on Thursday night (April 25). In rehearsals, he talked about his recently released joint EP with Feid, EVENT 20-05. “It caught my attention because I never expected it,” he notes. “I've always wanted to work with him because I love his talent, the way he sings, his energy, the way he is as a person. When I met him, I became more of a fan. [The album] was a suggestion I made to him after 'Yandel 150'. For me it is a special project that I enjoy because I am drawn to it [a] new generation [of fans].”
Becky G's Co-Hosting Era
Becky G is set to co-host the first bilingual broadcast of the awards ceremony alongside Thalia, Alejandra Espinoza and Carlos Ponce. “It's my first time coming to one of these awards and I'm not ashamed to be a A drinkspeaking in Spanish,” the Mexican-American singer exclusively says Advertising sign. “I know there are many generations who also identify with their Latino roots and want to join in celebrating our culture, but maybe don't always feel welcome to do so, so we hope to give a big hug to all the multigenerational families who are going to watch this show.” Behind the scenes, she also came up with “Shower,” which came out 10 years ago and has opened so many doors for her since then.
