Issues began to simmer last year after fans blamed Latto for Ice Spice's style after the ATLien shared a photo on Instagram of herself in a similar pose to the Bronx-born rapper. The “Big Energy” rapper of course responded to critics at the time, tweeting, “Every time you accuse me of copying people, I made it clear. Fast forward to 2024, when many fans pointed out that it became even more apparent that something was brewing between the two. During a red carpet interview with Advertising sign In January, fans claimed Big Latto was being shady after she couldn't finish the lyrics to Ice Spice's hit 'Bikini Bottom' after the interviewer recited the beginning of the verse.
Wrapping up the first month of the year, Latto released a teaser for her upcoming single, “Sunday Service,” which featured Latto rapping on a sprinter and appearing in a preview of the highly anticipated track as Ice's video for “Pretty Girl ” with Rema playing on a TV screen.
“I ain't singin' R&B but, b**ch, I'm real she, ain't no wrong with the n**gas?/ How you let him cheat and take him back?” Must be your only n**ga / I get loud like my weed, I don't mind my tone with n**gas / I hang up on the n**gas / You ain't my daddy, b* *h, I'm big mama / Every time you put me with them, it's gonna be big drama / 20 black Suburban, we pick up like Sunday service / I just want one on one, Don I don't know why she's so nervous,” Lato said.
Following the viral clip, the “Munch” rapper took to X to call out Latto for the perceived diss before confirming that her latest single, “Think U The Sh*t (Fart),” was aimed at Latto, confirming the suspicions of listeners. “I'm in the back of your weak ass,” Ice Spice said via X. “I was like, 'Wait a minute, that's me?' On Monday (February 5), Latto took to social media to share a photo of herself posing in a white tank top, dark blue jeans and gold jewelery as she wore her hair up with a black line covering her eyes in front. from a backdrop of female rappers including Ice Spice, Missy Elliott, Lil' Kim, GloRilla, Sexyy Red, Coi Leray, among others, who also wore the black eye bar. While Latto has yet to confirm if she was shadowing Ice Spice with her snipe, it's clear that when it comes to verbal heartache, Ice Spice is outclassed. From Latto's ability to drive the pace and stay in the pocket, to his complex use of the double beam. The simple bars of Ice Spice in “Fart” are easily blown out of the water. As we recently noticed with Megan Thee Stallion's venomous track “Hiss,” rap fans are thirsty for bars. And if the reaction to Nicki Minaj's unlikely response, “Big Foot,” proved anything, it confirmed that we're finally over the gimmicks.
