Imagine a legendary jazz club equipped with cutting-edge production tools: that's the magic of Splice's new Signature Center, allowing producers to infuse their music with the spirit of improvisation and timeless freshness.
Splice, which in 2020 was named by EDM.com as the best music company of the year, they are hitting all the right notes with their new sample label. Timed to coincide with today's celebration of International Jazz Day, Signature promises to be a true treasure for beatmakers and jazz fans alike.
Signature's sounds are akin to velvet curtains and crisp gin martinis. Within its confines lies a sumptuous collection of recordings that echo the genre's illustrious past, from the smoky, blues-tinged melodies of New Orleans to the frenetic rhythms of Kansas City bebop.
The sultry sounds of jazz have become popular among today's music producers and content creators, according to Matt Block, director of music production at Splice.
“Beyond its fundamental musical importance in all popular music, jazz has become an increasingly prevalent element within popular music,” Block said in a press release shared with EDM.com. “Samara Joy, a jazz vocalist, won best new artist at the GRAMMYs last year, Robert Glasper has been working to usher in a new era of jazz for more than two decades and more recently, and artists like “Laufey, Domi and JD Beck are driving a jazz resurgence on platforms like TikTok. With this new collection we hope to reflect and encourage the growing popularity of jazz sounds in music creation.”
The new collection joins more than 30 independent sample labels created by Splice, each paying homage to a certain genre, region or zeitgeist. Featuring six sample packs, Signature's sound library “explores the diverse jazz styles, subgenres, and instruments” that have influenced the genre's unwavering cultural evolution.
These include “The Front Line,” a tribute to the birthplace of jazz in the 1920s; and “Love Legacy Vocal Jazz,” a package of enjoyable recordings toasting the jazz vocalists who pioneered and defined the era.
“Jazz is the foundation of music and culture for creativity and innovation,” added John McNeill, head of the Signature record label at Splice. “It has provided the soundtrack for everything from social commentary and activism to love and entertainment; the impact of this genre cannot be underestimated. With the launch of Signature we want creators to have access to sounds that are not only timeless, but also important “.
