If you can't get a crowd to attend your LEGO DJ performance, you can always build one.
A new design on LEGO's “Ideas” platform, which allows consumers to submit ideas for LEGO products to be turned into commercially available sets, has been causing a stir among music lovers with a fondness for the little plastic bricks. One user has created a working replica of the Technics SL-1200 MK2 turntable so you can cut and scratch using the power of LEGO bricks.
Builders can upload their creations to the crowdsourcing platform, where users can vote on them. If their design gets 10,000 votes, LEGO staff will review it and decide whether it should become an official set.
Created by Tomasso, the recreation of the Technics turntable contains realistic features such as a needle, an adjustable pitch control, and a 45 RPM adapter. He used 2215 bricks to achieve the construction.
This isn’t the first time Tomasso has shared a DJ-related LEGO set with the world. Last year, he started a campaign to build a Pioneer DJ CDJ-2000 Nexus, which has since reached the necessary 10,000 votes and will be reviewed by LEGO designers in September 2024. Given that success, it seems likely that his Technics version will suffer the same fate.
