The ashes of late Motörhead legend Lemmy Kilmister are being enshrined at one of his favorite Sunset Strip spots: the iconic Rainbow Bar & Grill in West Hollywood.
The ceremony is scheduled for April 19 at 9 p.m. PT, and the Rainbow will also invite fans and attendees to “raise a unique toast to Lemmy and Motörhead with the introduction of new Motörhead whiskey” via a Facebook mail.
When not on tour, Lemmy was a regular at the Rainbow and could often be found playing the video poker machine at the bar. The Rainbow would eventually dedicate its patio to the Motörhead frontman and rename it “Lemmy's Lounge.” A life-size bronze statue of Lemmy also stands in the courtyard, and in turn, neighbor Roxy had a mural of him painted on the wall opposite the courtyard and the statue.
The consecration is the last gesture that celebrates the life of the beloved rocker. We recently reported on the construction of a statue in his hometown of Burslem in the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, his ashes are also enshrined in a giant Lemmy sculpture that looms over the Hellfest grounds in Clisson, France.
In other Motörhead news, the band's group released an eight-CD box set, The lost tapesin February, collecting all five volumes of the ongoing live recording series.
As for the new Motörhead whiskey, fans can find more information through Motörhead Spirits. website.
