The news that Manchester icons Liam Gallagher and John Squire were collaborating on a new project ignited a wave of anticipation: uniting the vocal personality and attitude of the Oasis frontman with the remarkable guitar talent of the creative force of The Stone Roses would surely be something special.
And their debut song 'Just Another Rainbow' lived up to expectations as it peaked at #16 on the UK Singles Chart and at the same time shot straight to #1 on the sales charts. , downloads, vinyl and physical singles, achieving Liam's record in the process. highest entry on the singles charts in fifteen years.
But that was just the beginning. Now Liam Gallagher and John Squire announce much more of their collaboration. Their self-titled debut album will be released on March 1st and will be released today along with their second single, 'Mars To Liverpool'. They also announced details of their first UK tour together and selected shows in Ireland, France, Germany, Italy and the US.
Liam says, “I can't wait for people to hear the album. I think people who like Stone Roses and Oasis and that kind of stuff, I think they'll love it. It's spiritual, it's crucial. “LGx”
John adds, “It was really inspiring to have those concerts at Knebworth fresh in my mind when I started writing. Then it was about trying to keep everything from being too unstable and also trying to mix up the feelings. I like the way that in some parts it is quite melancholic and can make you feel good, but there are other parts that are a little irreverent, rude or crude. There's a little bit of everything there, I think it's a very good mix. I had a feeling we would sound good together, but I wasn't prepared for it to fit so well.”
Like 'Just Another Rainbow' before it, 'Mars To Liverpool' delivers exactly what you'd expect from the pair. Delivering infectious rock 'n' roll with an undercurrent of '60s-tinged psychedelia, it sees John weaving inventive guitar work (sounding riffs, fluid classic rock solos) around Liam's inspiring vocal delivery. Like the best of his famous bands' work and solo work, 'Mars To Liverpool' elevates his air of melancholy to a soaring, crowd-pleasing anthem. So now that's two amazing singles to maximize the anticipation for the album release.
Long friends and with a mutual admiration for each other's work, the idea for a collaboration began when John joined Liam on stage at his Knebworth Bible shows. Song ideas soon began to flow and the album took shape with an intuitive intensity during his time in Los Angeles with revered producer Greg Kurstin. He played bass throughout the album, while Joey Waronker (Beck, REM, Atoms For Peace) played drums.
The album is now available for pre-order HERE. Physical formats include standard CD and vinyl, a two-color Deluxe vinyl, a white vinyl available at HMV and select independent stores, and an orange EcoRecord vinyl exclusive to Amazon.
