Manchester, for any music (or sports) fan who knows their stuff, is a city that punches way above its weight. Like Oasis, the now-defunct giant of the Britpop era, who hit No.1 on the Official UK Albums Chart with studio albums (seven in total) and dropped records along the way. The “Live Forever” rockers are one step away from being inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame.
Stones Roses guitarist John Squire and former Oasis and Beady Eye frontman Liam Gallagher recently teamed up for a collaborative, self-titled album which – no surprises here – reached No.1 in the Official UK Albums Chart earlier this year, outselling it. nearest competitor by three copies to one. Liam now has 14 UK No.1 albums in a career spanning three decades.
On Tuesday night, April 9, that “superduo” visited NBC The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallonfor a performance of the bluesy-rock album track “I'm A Wheel.”
Gallagher, in particular, is in fine form, staring down the barrel of the camera, growling and full of menace, and reminding us how an experienced frontman, with his deep tricks, can own the stage.
The singer vented some of that venom in February when the shortlist for the Rock Hall was announced – with Oasis on it.
The famous singer, who went solo after older brother and Oasis chief songwriter Noel Gallagher split the band in 2009, summed up his sentiment about the nod in a short, sharp tweet in which he wrote: “F–ck the Rock n Roll hall of fame is full of babble.” The latter is a Jamaican slang term often used by Gallagher on his socials when dissing him to express his disdain in no uncertain terms.
