You have the right to remain silent, but you might be tempted to sing along now that Lil Nas X's catchy new single “Here We Go!” for the upcoming Netflix Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F he fell.
Includes a prominent sample of the “Axel F” brass theme song originally written by Harold Faltermeyer, “Here We Go!” finds the 25-year-old rapper living up to his top dog status over heavy bass and a trap beat. “And tell them not to die trying to get us/ He could go a million miles he won't make it,” he sings on the track, which arrived on Friday (June 28). “Move, just tell them to move/ Just tell them to move, move, move.”
“Axel F” was a top five hit on the Billboard Hot 100 for Faltermeyer in 1985, peaking at No. 3.
Lil Nas X's first solo release since “Where Do We Go Now?” of January, the new song will be both Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Fits main theme as well as the game over the end credits. The film premieres on Netflix on July 3 and marks the fourth installment in the franchise under Eddie Murphy following Beverly Hills Cop III in 1994.
“It was really kind of crazy,” the “Old Town Road” artist said when asked about the track in a recent chat with Axel F mold. “I was a bit emotional… I'm happy to do it. I hope I don't get slaughtered by people who love the original.”
“Nah, your piece is bananas,” Murphy assured him, as captured in a video posted on Netflix's Instagram.
The actor added: “I'm excited to have a new musical and that this brother is the one in it.”
In addition to “Here We Go!”, LNX has so far released the solo single “J Christ” as well as collaborations with Camila Cabello (“He Knows”) and Kevin Abstract (“Tennessee”) in 2024. He has no release an album from his debut LP in 2021 Monterowhich reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
The Georgia native also talked about his new film in a since-deleted Instagram post earlier this week, writing: “So excited to release the greatest song of all time this Friday! also sorry for being so scared with my art lately. I return to myself. I will make you very proud.”
