After Lil Wayne left Kendrick Lamar GNX Opener “Wacced Out Murals,” Weezy reportedly tried to check in with Lamar and take his temperature on what exactly he meant, according to Joe Budden.
On the latest episode of his self-titled podcast, Budden claimed Wednesday (Nov. 27) that Wayne called Kendrick and the Compton native didn't answer.
“I hear somebody picked up the phone and tried to call and see what the energy was,” Budden said. “I hear Kendrick didn't answer. If I call you rapper to rapper and you don't answer.”
Joe went on to say that he heard Wayne walk into the booth after Kendrick allegedly killed his olive branch and possibly recorded something to send in the Compton rapper's direction.
“I'm going to the booth now,” he continued. “You have until I enter this booth to answer me. I hear Wayne got into the booth.'
Bulletin board has reached out to representatives for Lil Wayne and Kendrick Lamar.
Kendrick raps on the album's opening track: “You used to hit Carter IIII kept my Rollie chain proud/ Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down.”
Word travels fast and Weezy caught Kendrick's bars shortly after GNXarrival of “Man I do?” he tweeted on Saturday (November 23). “I'm just relaxed and I'm still in my head. Let us not mistake kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. please everyone No one really wants destruction, not even me, but I will destroy if they bother me. On me. Love.”
Wayne admitted he was hurt by the NFL's decision to have Kendrick headline next year's Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show with the big game in his hometown of New Orleans, which has seemingly caused a stalemate between the two.
“That hurt. It hurt a lot. You know what I'm talking about. It hurt a lot,” he said at the time. “I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a disappointment. And because I automatically mentally put myself in that position as someone told me that was my position. So I blame myself for that. But I thought there was nothing better than that spot and that stage and that platform in my city, so I hurt. It hurt a lot.”
