Lily Allen has reflected on her friendship with James Corden.
During Monday’s episode of her Miss Me? Podcast with longtime friend Miquita Oliver, the singer recalled that the Gavin and Stacey star was “very flirtatious” with her during an interview in 2008.
As part of the podcast episode, Lily and Miquita took a call from a fan who asked if they had any “famous beg friends”, which refers to a person who begs for your attention in the hope of striking up a friendship, often for their own benefit.
“Yeah James Corden was a bit of a beg friend, for me,” Lily, 39, replied with a laugh. “(He) came on my chat show (Lily Allen and Friends) and was very flirtatious with me, and we sort of made friends and I introduced him to a group of my friends.”
The Smile hitmaker added, “I’d say if I’ve ever had a famous beggy friend it was James, back in the day.”
Lily went on to say that her friendship with James, who she first met in 2006, has changed since then.
“He’s not begging me anymore,” she clarified. “I’m not begging him either… I can’t do anything for him now. He’s good.”
Lily said that while that time in her life was “a bit hazy”, she recalled that James had written about their friendship in his book, seemingly referring to his 2011 memoir May I Have Your Attention Please?.
“I believe that he wrote about it in his book that, you know, that I was like leading him on or something – which I definitely wasn’t,” the Not Fair singer said.
James wrote of Lily in his memoir, “She’s confident, funny and intelligent. I guess I went out with Lily four or five times in total – and not once was it a proper date. It always seemed to involve other people and not just the two of us.”
