At this stage in their illustrious careers, it's clear that Chris Lake and Disclosure are more intent on destroying the boundaries of house music than pushing it further.
That’s more noticeable than ever after today’s release of their new collaboration, “in2minds,” out now via Astrawerks and Lake’s Black Book Records. It’s house music stripped down to its essence and then rebuilt with a dark, postmodern edge that cuts through the noise of its formal counterparts in the genre.
As the song progresses, layers of harsh textures and hypnotic, melancholic rhythms are revealed. Disclosure and Lake produce distorted bass and a thick, viscous bassline that oozes through the mix like tar, engulfing everything in its path.
“For me, it was a fun and natural collaboration,” Lake said in a press release. “We made 'in2minds' the first day we were in the studio together. Disclosure and I are both pretty technical and with this song it feels like we showed off a little bit to each other. The result is the collaboration of two minds.”
Fans of the influential house music producers can look forward to more collaborations in the future, after they shared a teaser of another new track earlier this month. Disclosure's Guy Lawrence also said that today's release is “just the first of a few things we're working on.”
