Koji Aiken is back with a new single, “Hyperdrive,” a drum & bass hit that lives up to its name.
Combining traditional Japanese elements with electronic music, this drum & bass giant throws you into the neon-drenched streets of Neo-TokyoAiken, who has become one of the genre's leading tastemakers on social media, bottles his relentless energy and adorns it with sonic sakura petals.
The Vancouver producer shines as he skillfully produces a blistering beat with taiko thunder and a barrage of glitchy synths. Meanwhile, saw-sharp bass cuts through the drop like cherry blossoms in a storm.
There's more to “Hyperdrive” than meets the eye, though. The song's cover art features a traditional Japanese circle, or ensō, adorned with delicate cherry blossom petals and birds in flight. This “deeply symbolic” image, she says, represents “the transitory nature of life, a nod to the fleeting yet powerful moments that music can evoke.”
