Like Martin Garrix's many dance anthems of yesteryear, his latest, “Gravity,” transports listeners to a place where weight doesn't exist.
Now available under Garrix's STMPD RCRDS label, the song was produced with Sem Vox and features a powerful vocal performance from Jaimes. Garrix fans will remember the Rotterdam-based singer-songwriter for his stellar work on “Empty,” a collaboration with DubVision that appeared on the duo's debut album. another worldwhich launched on STMPD in July.
The Dutch producers have created a sure-fire festival hit that feels both comfortingly familiar and excitingly new, an old progressive house anthem for those longing to be free of their burdens. Jaimes' escapist lyrics evoke a desire for self-discovery as he sings: “What if I could let myself go? / Both feet on the ground / What if there was a place / Where all my problems can't be found?”
Meanwhile, the euphoric energy of Garrix and Vox's production gradually rises like a sunrise on the horizon, eliciting the feeling of freedom that comes with the idea of breaking away from the weight of the world. The synths swell, taking us higher through a tense build, and when the drop finally comes, it's like jumping off a cliff: weightless but electrified by possibility.
