Pablo Skywalkin: “Why You Kiss”
For over a decade, Pablo Skywalkin's raspy voice and unusual flow have made him one of the oddities of the Detroit street rap scene. But these days I have no idea what's going on with him. He has ditched the true religion Canadian tuxedo he wore in the early videos as “Flex on Em” and now rocks woolly sweaters and oversized glasses that make him look like Norbit. I have no idea why, but he seems to be having a good time in the video for 'Why You Kiss', terrorizing a commercial bookstore by doing a weird two-step in the aisles. The song is also very silly – it's his recent mixtape where he raps a bunch of nonsense over clap-centric Certified Trapper beats. I'm particular about “Why You Kiss” because the lyrics have him going against the dating choices of the girl he's trying to hit on, and the hook goes, “Bitch, why you kiss that nigga on the lips.” Too bad Pablo doesn't do a good job of explaining what she should find so desirable about him, but I guess somewhere, somehow, Mr. Rogers-core gets you.
With artists releasing songs fast and furious, it's hard for the average hip-hop head to keep track of them all — no matter how well-rounded they are. That's why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear.
