THMPSN has released a new single, “Nicole Aniston,” a fascinating dive into the murkiest depths of phonk music.
Featuring a deep, stentorian bass, the dizzying track is a guiding light for the future of drift phonk, a burgeoning subgenre of electronic music that captures the intense intensity of street racing and drift culture through sound. It is named after adult film star Nicole Aniston, who delivers a haunting soliloquy about the difficult journey toward self-acceptance.
Amid the song's dark, distorted soundscapes, Aniston's sweet vocals offer an almost meditative respite. “Self-healing can happen in a moment,” she purrs. “It doesn't have to be a lifelong pursuit. And since there is no end, there is no finish line. There is no race. There is no competition.”
The track, a collaboration with Memphis hip-hop veteran Kingpin Skinny Pimp, is the latest masterstroke from the Australian electronic music producer, who is also an esteemed violinist. THMPSN has performed as a teacher at the French Conservatory of Music and played in orchestras at the legendary Dvořák Hall in Prague and at the opening of the Australian embassy in Berlin.
“Nicole Aniston” arrives alongside an official music video, featuring Aniston herself as she hypnotizes THMPSN in a reiki session. Watch the video below and find the new single on streaming platforms. here.
