LIVESAY – SCARS – ARTISTS ATTENTION AND REVIEW EP
AMP appeared last Livesay in 2022 when they released their single, “Walk Away”. It was the first release from an upcoming EP. Well, the EP is here and the four songs hit hard. Scars features “Walk Away” and three other dynamic tracks that deliver high-energy reverb with swirling twists. Livesay It consists of Gregg Livesay (Guitar), Mike Gill (Lead Vocals), Rich Andrews (Bass/Vocals), Mark Zito (Keys) and Tim Huntington (Drums). Since its release scars, Mark Zito has passed away. He was an incredible force on the New England and international music scene and will surely be missed.
LivesayHer last offering was the full length of 2016, Frozen hell, which featured many different members. Throughout its existence, the one constant within Livesay it was Gregg Livesay who remains the primary songwriter. The addition of Mike Gill as a singer is a plus. Gill's voice matches the exotic meanderings of the music to a tee. His soulful turns complement perfectly with the soundscape left by the band.
Livesay's guitar crackles with innate urgency. His riffs are wild and his leads have a cinematic flavor. Livesay delivers an avalanche of stellar licks and amps up his musical prowess. Andrews' bass has a dramatic character with killer bass lines. Huntington's percussion carries an addictive groove while Zito's keyboards add a charismatic feel and adventurous textures.
The first song in Scars is “Crusher Of Souls”. You immediately get an ominous atmosphere with Zito's keys swirling with a dark atmosphere. Gill's vocals are melodic but extremely edgy. Huntington's drums beat with great danger. Livesay's guitar wails with stark earnestness and his solo kills. Andrews' bass is deep. The track is powerful with a kaleidoscope of devouring sound. Next up is 'Walk Away'. It opens with a keyboard like fill that transitions into a Cult influenced mid tempo rocker. Livesay's solo is full of tension and bravado. As Mike Gill said at AMP in the past and still holds true today:
“The song deals with mental health issues and contemplating suicide. It's a real problem, especially after the isolation of Covid, and I think it's a major concern.”
“Scars” follows and the song is full of propulsive energy. It contains a rich palette of complex musical structures. Every instrument really shines with a myriad of bold tones. Gill's voice is harmonically rich with an explosive flurry of accents. The arrangement and songwriting are both amazing. The six-minute track sparkles with a ruthless sheen. Livesay he leaves the best for last. “God Of The Arena” is an incendiary jewel that leads into riffs. The guitars snake voraciously and again, Zito's keyboards command respect. Plus, the backbeat is deeply seductive. A glorious end to a wild work of art.
