Hip-hop legend LL Cool J was a guest on Uninterrupted's last episode The store. During a conversation with Lena Waithe about creative inspiration, Andre 3000's New Blue Sun album was put up for discussion.
Waithe was talking about how as an artist, “Different things inspire you,” and the producer and actress brought LL's foray into acting. “Sometimes some things are more exciting for an artist,” he said before using Andre's flute album as an example. “Even Andre 3000. Do we want him to do a rap album? Sure. But he says, “I'm into this flute game, everything. That's my jam right now, I'm really into it.”
The man they call Big Elly wasn't having it, retorting, “He's got to spit on him, though,” before launching into a mini-rant. “I need him to spit. Flutes? Man, come on, bro,” he said before admitting that “the comments are going to be crazy.” LL continued his point by giving Andre his flowers before declaring himself against the flute. “He's amazing, okay? His bars are up. I am very clear. Not the flute, B. Not the flute. Don't play the flute.”
This made Lena enthusiastically fight for the last job of 3 Stacks. “I loved the album. It's very relaxing, I'm drinking tea,” she said, before Big Hell interrupted her and fired. “Let's not lie to ourselves: I don't want to hear him play the flute,” said LL, who then asked the audience, “Do you want to hear me play the violin? You might not want to hear me do sh–, but you want to hear me play the violin?'
LL is not alone. Co-host Maverick Carter agreed, saying: “I want to hear him spit too.” Fans have been clamoring for an Andre 3000 solo rap album for years, and it seems the Queens legend has been waiting for one, too.
“I want him to go with Big Boi. I want them to do an Outkast [album]. Or do a solo album,” said LL Cool J. “Every time he does a verse, it's enough material for an album. He is so gifted. So it's like, come on, B, not the flute. We won't lie. … Do not gas … that man must know the truth. He needs to know the truth.”
