Ludwig Göransson took home the award for Best Original Score at the 2024 Oscars on Sunday night (March 10) for Oppenheimermarking his second win out of three Oscar nominations.
In his sweet acceptance speech, Göransson thanked director Christopher Nolan and producer Emma Thomas “for inviting me into this incredible world.”
“Christopher Nolan: It was your idea to use violin in the score and it allowed me to work and collaborate with my wonderful wife and accomplished violinist Serena Göransson,” the composer said to applause from the crowd. “We were shooting at night and rushing home to put our children, Apollo and Romeo, to bed, and the result was amazing and set a really nice tone for the film.
Göransson finished his speech by pointing to the balcony and sending a shout out to his mother and father. “To my parents up there: Thank you for giving me guitars and drums instead of video games.”
The four-time Grammy winner and now two-time Oscar winner previously won an Oscar for his Black panther score. He also co-wrote and co-produced Childish Gambino's 2018 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 song “This Is America.”
The Swedish composer also took home the award for original music in January Oppenheimer at the 2024 Golden Globes.
