Luke Bryan Discusses What's Next For 'American Idol' After Katy Perry Exits

A little over a month ago, Katy Perry said goodbye to her American Idol after spending seven seasons as a judge on the singing competition. Perry revealed in February that she would be leaving the show, and since then, there has been much speculation about who might take over the role Idol23rd season.

Talking to me Advertising sign recently, Perry's friend American Idol Judge Luke Bryan noted that a number of artist names have been floated as possible candidates for the role.

“I have said many names. I think P!nk was in talks, Miley Cyrus was in talks, Meghan Trainor was in talks,” says Bryan.

Notably, P!nk has previously stated that she is hesitant to take on the role of judge American Idol, effective Entertainment Tonight“I don't like hurting people's feelings… I like my day job.”

Meanwhile, Trainor said during a interview on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen“I've done every interview in the world and said this is my dream job and I've emailed three wonderful people who work in this world who don't really have the final say… but I've begged for this job… she's the favorite my show — I've been watching it since I was a kid.”

Its 22nd season Idol — which featured judges Bryan, Perry and Lionel Richie along with host Ryan Seacrest — concluded on May 19, with Abi Carter crowned the winner.

Bryan, a two-time CMA Entertainer of the Year winner, also adds that he's still waiting to hear who the judges will be for his upcoming 23rd season American Idol.

“It was interesting,” says the country star. “It was something that Disney was very tight-lipped about with me and Lionel and Ryan. At the moment we haven't heard what the story is about who is coming back and if Lionel and I will be back. I think Disney is just trying to figure out what they want to do and we're just sitting and waiting until they decide.”
