Lzzy Hale made her debut as Skid Row singer over the weekend during a pair of concerts on Friday and Saturday (May 17-18) in Illinois and Iowa.
Hale will fill the vocal role after Skid Row's previous frontman, Swedish singer Erik Grönwall, stepped away from the group due to health issues.
The band had four concerts scheduled, now billed as the “Skid Row x Lzzy Hale” run, when Grönwall announced his departure. The first came on Friday (May 17) at Walker's Bluff in Carterville, Illinois, where the glam metal icons led by Hale performed a 16-song set.
They started with one of Skid Row's heaviest songs in “Slave to the Grind” and proceeded to play the obligatory hits (“I Remember You,” “18 and Life”), a cover (“Psycho Therapy” by the Ramones ), and more heavy metal (“Monkey Business”). An encore of “Riot Act” and “Youth Gone Wild” (featuring Halestorm guitarist and Lzzy bandmate Joe Hottinger) ended the night, and by Songlist.fma similar performance was held the following night (May 18) at the Riverside Casino in Riverside, Iowa.
Dedicated fans captured much of Illinois' set from the pit, giving us an up-close look at “Skid Row x Lzzy Hale.” She is totally focused and clearly practiced hard for the role, memorizing all the lyrics and delivering the vocal lines commandingly. Hale even rocked a glam-metal era look to totally sell it.
Lzzy Hale and Skid Row will also perform on May 31 in Reno, Nevada, and June 1 in Sacramento, California (get tickets here). As for who will take over as singer after that… Sebastian Bach believes there are “good chances” of reuniting with his former band on the horizon.
