Machine Gun Kelly and Jelly Roll have teamed up for a new collaborative single, “Lonely Road,” which reimagines the iconic chorus from John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”
According to a recent post by Jelly Roll, “Lonely Road” has been in the works for two years, and was made across “eight different studios, four different countries.” Now, it’s arrived alongside a Sam Cahill-directed music video starring the two artists and their significant others, Megan Fox and Bunnie Xo, depicting mgk as a mechanic turned bank robber. Watch the video below.
Musically, the song features the hip-hop-country blend that both mgk and Jelly Roll have embraced with previous releases. For the chrouses, they lift the melody from Denver’s 1971 classic, but switch out the lyrics for sorrowful lines like “Lonely road take me home/ To the place where we went wrong,” ending with “I’m still here/ All alone.”
“Lonely Roads” is the first release from mgk since his cover of Zach Bryan’s “Sun To Me,” which arrived this past June. As for Jelly Roll, his 2024 tour is ongoing, and will stop in Nashville, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and more cities before wrapping in Jacksonville, Florida, this November.
