Macklemore released a song in support of the collective protests decrying the war Gauzewith proceeds going towards relief efforts.
On On Monday night (May 6), Macklemore surprised audiences by releasing “Hind's Hall,” a new single inspired by the protests taking place on college campuses nationwide in solidarity with the Palestinian people and condemning the raging war in Gaza. The name of the song comes from Hamilton Hall building at Columbia University in New York, occupied by student protesters and renamed “Hind's Hall” in tribute to Hind Rajaba six-year-old Palestinian boy who was killed during an Israeli Defense Forces attack earlier this year.
The artist shared it on X, formerly Twitter, writing: “Once it's live, all proceeds go to UNRWA.” UNRWA is the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. In the video, Macklemore calls out to those aiding the ongoing IDF attacks as footage plays of law enforcement officers clearing encampments on campus: “Block the barricade until Palestine is free/ When I was seven years old, I took a lesson from[IceCubeandEazy-E/Titanagain?Yes–thepolice”HeevengotinvolvedinthecurrentKendrickLamar/Drakefeudbycriticizingotherartistsforkeepingquietaboutthemwith:Themusicindustryisquietcomplicitintheirplatformofsilence/Becomeanartistwhatareyousleepingwith?/IfIwerealabelwherecouldyoutellmetoday/what'sthereasonwhymyheartfeedsmypage/Iwantaceasefireananswerfromdrake”ence/Whathappenedtotheartistwhatdoyougottosay?/IfIwasonalabelyoucoulddropmetoday/Andbefinewithit'causetheheartfedmypage/IwantaceasefirefuckaresponsefromDrake”[IceCubeκαιEazy-E/Τιήτανπάλι;Ωναιστ–ηαστυνομία”ΣυμμετείχεακόμηκαιστηντρέχουσαμάχηKendrickLamar/Drakeεπικρίνονταςάλλουςκαλλιτέχνεςγιατησιωπήτουςσχετικάμετοθέμα:Ημουσικήβιομηχανίαείναιήσυχησυνένοχοςστηνπλατφόρματηςσιωπήςτους/Τιέγινεμετονκαλλιτέχνητιέχειςναπεις;/ΑνΉμουνσεμιαετικέταπουθαμπορούσεςναμερίξειςσήμερα/Καιναείσαικαλάμεαυτόγιατίηκαρδιάμουτροφοδότησετησελίδαμου/ΘέλωκατάπαυσητουπυρόςγαμώμιααπάντησηαπότονΝτρέικ»[IceCubeandEazy-E/Whatwasitagain?Ohyeahf—-thepolice”HeevenchimedinonthecurrentKendrickLamar/Drakebattleinchidingotherartistsfortheirsilenceonthematter:Themusicindustry’squietcomplicitintheirplatformofsilence/Whathappenedtotheartistwhatdoyougottosay?/IfIwasonalabelyoucoulddropmetoday/Andbefinewithit’causetheheartfedmypage/IwantaceasefirefuckaresponsefromDrake”
