Duo performed the new track on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Madi Diaz has enlisted singer-actress Lennon Stella for the blissful duet “One Less Question.”
Written by Diaz, Stella, and Kate York, the serene track is overflowing with melody, as Diaz and Stella trade verses across an acoustic guitar that softly builds. “Are we flesh and bone?/Are we just a dream?” Diaz sings. “Are we lost or found?/Or somewhere in between?”
According to Diaz, the song is about how real love requires no wondering. “How it feels when you know in your whole body that this person is in your life to stay,” she says. “It’s unconditional. It’s trust. It’s true. It’s just one less question you have to answer because that person IS an answer. What a beautiful thing to get to experience that feeling.”
Lennon says the three songwriters penned the track one night at her home in Leipers Fork, Tennessee. “It’s incredibly special to the three of us,” she says. Adds Diaz: “I’m beyond honored that Lennon let me record my version of this song, and the very idea that she said yes when I asked her to be a part of it couldn’t be more of a dream come true. I’m honored to have her be a part of this story and I’m honored to be a small part of hers. This song simply wouldn’t exist if we hadn’t found one another.”
Diaz and Lennon debuted the track on Tuesday on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Earlier this year, Diaz released her excellent album Weird Faith, which she broke down for us in January. The album features “Don’t Do Me Good,” a duet with Kacey Musgraves.
