Madonna is wrapping up her career celebratory world tour in the most spectacular fashion. On Monday (March 25), the singer announced that she will play her biggest show to date on May 4 at the iconic Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The concert will be free for Madonna fans as a thank you to all the supporters who came out to celebrate her four decades of touring success. Sponsored by Itaú Apresenta, the concert will mark Madonna's first appearance in Brazil since 2012, with entry available to fans on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the event.
With the stage sitting in front of the Belmond Copacabana Palace Hotel, the unique concert will be broadcast live by TV Globo.
The Celebration tour was announced in January 2023 with an all-star promo video, then put on hold when the singer was rushed to hospital in June of that year with a “severe bacterial infection”. The hospitalization resulted in the tour being postponed from July to October, with the North American dates – which were originally scheduled to begin the run on July 15 in Vancouver – pushed back until this year.
Since kicking off in London in October, the Celebration tour has hit 14 countries and is currently on its final dates in the US, including a show at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas on Monday night, followed by shows in Houston, Atlanta , Tampa, Miami and Austin before a five-night Mexico City run in late April at Palacio De Los Deportes.
The famous Copacabana Beach has been the setting for a number of huge concerts in the past, including Rod Stewart's 1994 New Year's Eve set that drew nearly 4.5 million fans and a Rolling Stones show in 2006 that drew 1.5 million at beach.
