Drake continued to release music in the wake of his wax fight Kendrick Lamar as a guest performer, who leans more on his melodic side. Drake will reportedly return to the rap side of his sound with a rumored project with a producer Maestro Williams it is said to be released later this year.
News of the upcoming Drake and Conductor Williams project was first heard during a Hot 97's show Evros In the morning. Main host Ebro Darden addressed the rumor of an album coming from the Canadian superstar with co-host Laura Stylez adding to the chatter.
“Drake is dropping a project sometime this year. That's the rumor,” Darden said Wednesday (July 31). Stylez added, “Heard it's coming sooner than we think.”
Co-host Peter Rosenberg, who is as culture-savvy as anyone in his line, said: “I also heard he's done a whole project's worth of music with Maestro Williams that's very Hip-Hoppy.”
Maestro Williams is a name known to many in the underground and has created projects with fellow Kansas native Stik Figa. Williams has also been associated with the massive Griselda Records camp and has produced projects for her mainstays, Conway The Machine and Westside Gunn, along with projects with Boldy James, Mach-Hommy and others.
Williams also produced J. Cole's now-deleted track “7 Minute Drill,” which took aim at Kendrick Lamar before the North Carolina star backed down from the jab.
Williams produced two tracks on Drake's For All The Dogs: Scary Hours Edition deluxe drop, '8am In Charlotte' and 'Stories About My Brother'.
The news has not been confirmed by the OVO Sound camp so far.
