With Pride Month in full swing, singer-songwriter Maren Morris is ready to let her fans know that she is more than an ally to the LGBTQ+ community.
In one Instagram post on Sunday (June 9), Morris came out as bisexual. Posting a series of photos from her show on Saturday (June 8) in Phoenix, the “Dancing With Myself” singer revealed that she identifies with her queer fans. “Happy to be B in LGBTQ+,” she wrote her post. “joyful pride.”
The photo series shows Morris performing on stage during her RSVP Redux tour, with two photos showing her waving a small Pride flag next to her band.
Several artists congratulated the star for coming out in the comments of her post. “Crying! So happy for you! Happy Pride, bb,” alternative indie artist Heather Mae wrote. Singer-songwriter Alison Pontier, meanwhile, thanked Morris for the example she's set throughout her career. “HAPPY PRIDE !!!!!Thanks for the inspiration and what a special pride this is,” he said.
Morris has been outspoken on LGBTQ+ issues for years, whether criticizing country star Jason Aldean's wife, Brittany Aldean for transphobic comments, or apologizing to queens for country music's treatment of the community at large. “The way the country music industry treated LGBTQ people was awful — there was almost no representation,” he said at the time. “There are people like Ty Herndon, who couldn't come out until he was basically out of the industry. But there's progress being made: TJ Osborne, one of my closest friends, came out a few years ago, and there's such support behind him because he's like, “Yeah, it's okay.”
