Margo Price has teamed up with Billy Strings to create a new song, “Too Stoned to Cry.” Listen to the collaboration below.
Featuring vocal performances by both Price and Strings, “Too Stoned to Cry” is a twangy, beer-soaked country ballad about, well, being too stoned to properly express your emotions. “I’m not happy, I’m too stoned to cry,” they sing over steel guitar, drums, piano and String’s signature bluegrass-tinged guitar.

“Billy has persevered a lot in his short life, and his story and dedication to his craft inspire me deeply,” Price said. wrote“I may be biased, but I think this song shows how versatile Billy is as a musician and vocalist. His voice and performance on this song blew me away and demonstrates his ability to sing and play country music with the best of them.”
To accompany the song, Price posted a Update on Substackin which he details his return home from tour, his time on tour with Susan Tedeschi, and the state of country music.
“Between artificial intelligence, the internet, and tech and streaming corporations, it feels like music has sometimes been stripped of its humanity,” he muses. “Nowadays, a lot of people seem to listen with their eyes, rather than their ears or, better yet, their hearts. The only way to fight bad art is to make good art, and that’s what I’m currently focused on.”
“When I first came into the scene, I was a stubborn, whiskey-drinking nobody who was angry at the system. All of that is still true, except the whiskey-drinking part,” she added in a statement. “If anything, now that I’ve lived for a while within the system, I’m even angrier. I’ve let some people go, I’m still fighting with others to let me be myself, but I know I’m going to make this next record the way I want to make it, no matter what it takes.”
As for new music, Price teased that she is working on her next album. “For those wondering, why just a single? Why not a full album announcement? Well, of course, I am working on an LP as we speak, have been for some time now,” she explained. “In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this sad country song.”
