Mariah Carey has been eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for nearly a decade, but even after being nominated for the first time last year, she has yet to receive the recognition. Someone else, however, has: his lawyer.
That's right: Attorney Allen Grubman was inducted into the Rock Hall in 2022 in the Ahmet Ertegun Award category for his record of representing artists such as Carey, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Elton John and, until last July, P Diddy. In addition, he is also one of the founders of the Rock Hall.

Carey spoke about the circumstance in a new interview with Los Angeles Timesin which she was asked if she had any thoughts about being nominated for the first time. She responded: “What I think is: I didn't get in” and continued: “Everyone was calling me and saying, 'I think you're going in!' and that's why I was excited. But then it didn't happen. “My lawyer got into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before me.”
Carey was eligible for the nomination in 2015, the 25th anniversary of her self-titled debut album. Grubman, for his part, has been involved in the Hall since he participated in its founding in 1983, but his incorporation was not without controversy. Before being ousted from the Hall's board of directors, co-founder Jann Wenner criticized the decision, saying it was “a matter of money and kowtowing to the ego of a power broker in the music business.”
In other news, Carey will hit the road this month for her 2024 Christmas tour, followed by dates in 2025 with her Las Vegas residency. Get tickets for their upcoming shows here.
