Finally, Mau P has released “Beats for the Underground”, a house anthem that explores the past to embed his signature on the dance floor of the future.
We become willing captives of Mau P's latest masterstroke, a heady tech house track with hints of classic hip-hop. The rising Dutch superstar had been playing “Beats for the Underground” at her DJ sets throughout 2023, as it became one of the most anticipated dance tracks of the year.
Driven by a heady bassline that bubbles like molten gold, the song bottles the bubbling energy of the underground club scene and draws us into its cathartic rhythms. Listen below.
Today's release is a big moment for Mau P, who picked up a pair of Electronic Dance Music Awards last year after releasing his smash hit, “Drugs From Amsterdam.” Sharing a heartfelt open letter to his fans, he recalled memories of unpleasant years in which he fought cruel whispers that his sound would never take hold in the industry.
“If you know me from Amsterdam drugs, you might think I've come out of nowhere and have a secret trick,” he wrote. “The truth is I've been involved in the game for a while and I've been trying to make this work for YEARS…I never could believe why it wasn't working for me and why I saw others succeed…I “All I did was I kept doing it from every angle and I'm trying to tell you that you should too… you can do all this too, the only trick is not to stop.”
“It happened when it was supposed to happen, buddy!” Calvin Harris commented. “And I know you're just getting started.”
“Beats for the Underground” is available now via Repopulate Mars. You can find the new track on streaming platforms here.
