Maynard James Keenan's month-long “Sessanta Tour,” celebrating his 60th birthday and featuring his bands A Perfect Circle and Puscifer alongside Primus, concluded Saturday night (May 4) at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, New York. Being the last show of the excursion, Keenan and company broke a couple of “60” piñatas to add a special touch to the festivities.
As we reported after the tour's kickoff show in Boston on April 2, the “Sessanta Tour” featured rotating performances by all three bands, including several moments where members of more than one band played together on stage. The April 20 Los Angeles show included a surprise performance by Tool, along with guest appearances from original A Perfect Circle members Paz Lenchantin and Troy Van Leeuwen.
Like all the shows on the tour, Saturday night's concert at Forest Hills Stadium ended with a stellar performance of Puscifer's “Grand Canyon” with members of all three bands on stage, including Les Claypool of Primus (with a pig mask) and A. Billy Howerdel of Perfect Circle.
After that final song, Keenan and company unleashed a pair of “60s” piñatas to end the “Sessanta Tour” with a bang.
The “Sessanta Tour” is over, but fans in the UK and Europe will be able to see Keenan when Tool kicks off a month-long tour on May 25 in Hannover, Germany (pick up tickets here).
Meanwhile, Primus will hit the road with co-headliners Coheed and Cambria in July for a US summer tour, with tickets available here.
