While the late 2000s weren't exactly a boom time for ska, the 2009 song “The gigantic robot kills” extolled the glories of the genre. this week in In defense of skathe podcast welcomes nerdcore rapper MC Lars to talk about the story behind the song, his history with ska, and more. As MC Lars explains, “The Gigantic Robot Kills” was the product of numerous musical collaborations. It talks about everyone involved in the creation of the song, from featured artists Suburban Legends and MC Bat Commander to Wheatus' work on the original demo. He also mentions Wesley Willis' involvement, as well as the incredible time he had working on a song with the legendary “Weird Al.”
Music, especially ska, has been a big part of MC Lars' life for a long time. The rapper talks about the many artists who have inspired him, including Fall Out Boy and Less Than Jake. He even got to see GONE Co-host of Adam Davis' former band Link 80 in concert when he was in high school!
