Over two years ago, Wayne Kramer promised that a new MC5 album would see the light of day. He also shared a preview of a new track with Tom Morello, “Heavy Lifting.” Today, some four months after Kramer's death at the age of 75, details of the MC5's new album have been revealed. the whole body, Heavy liftingout October 18 via EarMusic. Heavy lifting It features guitar and vocals from the late Kramer, who co-wrote 12 of the album's 13 songs with Oakland musician Brad Brooks. LP guests include Tom Morello, Slash of Guns N' Roses, William DuVall, Vernon Reid of Living Colour, and the late MC5 drummer Dennis “Machine Gun” Thompson.
Heavy lifting is the MC5's first new studio album since 1971 High time. Later this year, the Detroit proto-punk band will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
