It's been a tumultuous past five years for Megan Thee Stallion. While her star power has grown, she has suffered the losses of her mother and grandmother, and has had to deal with the fallout and trauma of Tory Lanez's 2020 shooting and subsequent trial.
In her struggle with depression, Meg turned to alternative solutions like therapy to improve her mental health as she faced a train of hate that she felt people kept kicking her while she was down.
The Houston hottie opened up on her newtour-mental-health” target=”_blank”> L'OFFICIEL cover about her mental health battle and the cathartic release that came with dropping her fiery single “Hiss” earlier this year, which topped the Billboard Hot 100.
“I felt so awful every day,” Meg shared. “It was such a hard place to come out of. I don't even want to care who hates me, really. What I must to focus is the love i receive. That's what I'm trying to get better at now. It's not going to be all great all the time. If I'm going to be here for the cheers, I've got to be here for the boos.”
Thee Stallion claims she didn't know there would be such a visceral response to “Hiss.” Although the 29-year-old was happy to take the weight off her shoulders after people had so much to say about her in recent years.
“I had absolutely no idea he would do all this! I had no idea it was going to happen,” Megan added. “I had been holding back feelings for a while. I felt like everyone was kicking me when I was down.
He continued: “It felt good to finally be able to talk just because I was in a place where I was so down and I didn't want to do anything to disturb any kind of peace. I felt like, “Oh Megan The Stallion, everybody hates you right now. Don't say a word. Just be quiet.”
“Hiss” arrived in the last week of January and bowed at the top to give Megan her third No. 1 hit on the Hot 100 and her first solo effort at the top. The track debuted with 29.2 million first-week streams, 2.9 million public radio impressions, and 104,000 downloads sold between January 26 and February 26. 1, according to Luminate.
Megan Thee's revival-themed album Stallion is due out this summer. He says fans can expect a full cycle of emotions and different sounds throughout the LP.
“This is the music I would want if I wasn't Megan Thee Stallion. I don't want to say that I step into other genres. I just touch other sounds. But she's still very Megan Thee Stallion. I won't feel like I went so far left. It will be real for me,” he said. “You're almost like, 'I wouldn't have thought he would have rapped about this, but that sounds great.'
Meg is currently on the road as part of her Hot Girl Summer tour, which will hit Memphis and Atlanta this week.
