Spice Girl Mel C joined The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X live from their makeshift, campervan studio at Worthy Farm. Melanie Chisholm – aka Mel C – revealed that she would ‘love nothing more’ than achieving the ‘absolute ultimate’ goal of reuniting with the Spice Girls and performing at Glastonbury in the near future. Mel also spilled the tea on how her surprise collaboration with electronic duo Orbital came about ahead of this year’s festival.

CM: “So, who are you going to perform with next year?”
MC: “Well, it would be quite nice to do it on my own, wouldn’t it? I might have some new music out. Well, I will have some new music out next year.”
DB: “Oh good!”
CM: “When was the last time you performed at Glastonbury, your own set, your own show?”
MC: “I’ve only done it once, last year. Because the year before I DJed. I played Avalon last year with my band.”
CM: “Pyramid stage, I think.”
MC: “I’ve got to get on that one, I’ve done other stages. Blossoms, I did that a couple of years ago, that was amazing. So, yeah.”
DB: “Mel, how did the Orbital thing come about? Are you mates with them?”
MC: “Do you know what, this is actually a really nice story. So, when Spice Girls started, we were writing and recording in the Strongroom – which is in Shoreditch – and Orbital were next door. We used to sit in the common area together and drink tea. Yeah.”
PT: “Rock and roll!”
DB: “They’re really nice though, aren’t they? They’re quite quiet, sort of unassuming guys, aren’t they?”
MC: “They are amazing! They’re lovely. Well, they’re brothers, they’re very different characters. And they’re brilliant, so lovely. And Tilda Swinton also was part of the performance, she opened and closed. So, it was just… What an experience! It was such a privilege to be part of it.”

CM: “Do you know Emily Eavis, do you have her number? Like, can you text her and go ‘Hi, it’s me. Can I play the pyramid this year, please?’”
MC: “Do you know, I wouldn’t want to be that person. And I’ve met Emily a few times, and I mean, what an amazing job she does. It kind of feels like it just gets better and better, you know. Well, it feels like it gets bigger and bigger.”
CM: “It was a funny line up this year. For me, it didn’t feel as strong as last year. But then again, at the same time, there was still phenomenal… Like, Coldplay were phenomenal. And Dua Lipa’s Vegas-style show. And even SZA’s show looked spectacular.”
MC: “I just think it’s the enormity of it, and there’s – you know, even if you’re not into the headliners – there’s so many things to do. And sometimes when you just like, you know, find some something unexpected, they’re the best moments.”
CM: “Now, are you going to do you, or do you want to do it with the other girls you used to be in a band with?”
MC: “Do you know what, I think there’s room for both.”
DB: “Oh, now that would be good.”
MC: “No, do you know what, I think the absolute ultimate would be to do it with the Spice Girls. There’s nothing I would like more. But you know, while they’re still making their minds up…”
CM: “What did the Spice Girls ever do at Glastonbury?”
MC: “Nothing.”
CM: “Nothing at all?”
MC: “No, because if you think about it in the ‘90s, they didn’t have pop music at music festivals.”
CM: “Could be a good headliner next year…”
DB: “Oh it would be a belting headliner.”
MC: “Should we start the rumour?”
