KDrew is at his most vulnerable on “Where Do We Go?”, his surprising new single out now via Hegemon Select.
The record comes on the heels of the acclaimed producer and singer-songwriter’s track “Hysteria,” which dropped in late June. And, like that release, it’s a masterpiece of soulful, vocal-driven bass music.
Laced with distortion-drenched guitar licks, the lyrics of “Where Do We Go?” read like a survival guide for the metaphysically stranded. With evocative cosmic references, KDrew’s voice surfs on waves of synth chaos, a lonely astronaut pondering, “Are we in hell or under the stars?”
Spoiler alert: it's always both. KDrew poses big questions, but doesn't shy away from the vertigo it all generates: “We've fought the antidote that tried to take us down. But where do we go from here?” he screams.
Meanwhile, his production is as sharp as ever, swallowing listeners whole and spitting them out into an abyss of bass-driven introspection. The song’s melodic drops draw us into a wormhole of complextro sound design, its frenetic synths reflecting the existential angst of its lyricism and leaving a trail of glitch-ridden euphoria in their wake.
