Members of REM, The Black Crowes and Screaming Trees have formed a new supergroup, Silverlites, alongside singer-songwriter Joseph Arthur. The band's first single, “Don't Go, Don't Stay,” is available now ahead of the November 15 release of their self-titled debut album.
The project features Arthur on lead vocals alongside REM's Peter Buck on acoustic guitars, The Black Crowes' Rich Robinson on acoustic and electric guitars, and Barrett Martin (Screaming Trees, Mad Season) on drums, double bass, vibraphone and backing vocals.
“Don't Go, Don't Stay” features the Silverlites' roots rock sound, as Arthur sings over organic instrumentation by Buck, Robinson and Martin, the latter of whom recorded the opening acoustic guitar tracks in a bedroom of Nashville hotel in 2019.
“We hope you like the songs, as we spent the pandemic years doing several recording and mixing sessions,” Martin wrote in instagram“and we used a classical form of composition, which is often forgotten today. That is, acoustic guitars (with a bit of electric guitar), with a great lead vocal, catchy choruses, and a soulful beat in the rhythm section. “It’s old school composition, like us.”
Silverlites Self-titled debut LP arrives November 15 via Sunyata Records. The album's 12 tracks were engineered by Seattle studio legend Jack Endino and mixed in 2021 with Daniel Sanint at Flux Studios in New York City.
