A generational moment took place during Turnstile‘s performance this past Friday (June 28th) at the Tons of Rock festival in Oslo, Norway.
While the hardcore band was in the midst of its typically raucous set, a member of Turnstile’s social media team captured two heavy metal legends taking in the action together from the sidestage: Metallica’s James Hetfield and Judas Priest’s Rob Halford.
Hetfield was particularly excited, fist pumping and shouting along to the lyrics, while Halford stood in stoic observance as he appeared to mouth the words to the song.
The clip was first posted to Turnstile’s Instagram Story and was eventually reposted on Reddit and other platforms, gaining some viral traction.
“Actually so sick to see some of the most iconic dudes in heavy music still appreciating the next generation,” read the top comment on the post in the r/hardcore subreddit. Check out the clip of Hetfield and Halford rocking out to Turnstile below.
Given Hetfield’s enthusiasm during their set, we wouldn’t be surprised if Metallica tapped Turnstile for a support slot on future concerts. Likewise, Halford continues to champion younger bands who have captured modern heavy music audiences, as he recently heaped praise on the mysterious and massively popular UK act Sleep Token.
Metallica are currently making their way across Europe as part of the “M72 Tour.” They are booked to return to the US in August (get tickets here).
