During Metallica’s concert at Chicago’s Soldier Field on Sunday (August 11), guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Rob Trujillo performed Ministry’s “Just One Fix.”
The performance was one of the duo's recurring “doodles,” a tradition Trujillo and Hammett have taken up in recent years of playing a stripped-down version of a local artist, sometimes with Trujillo on vocals. Industrial pioneers Ministry formed in Chicago in 1981.

“Kirk and I like to jam and celebrate new ideas, sometimes right from the dressing room,” Trujillo told the crowd Sunday night. “And sometimes we like to celebrate bands or artists from around town. And tonight we have a band that is very special, an artist that we consider innovative and who is a big influence on us. If any of you like the band Ministry, let’s get together. And if you know the lyrics, sing along with me because I’m going to need your help. Okay? This is our version of ‘Just One Fix.’”
The duo then launched into the version in which Trujillo gave his all on vocals. The tribute even caught the attention of Ministry itself, who expressed its gratitude. Facebook with a “Thanks Metallica” and a repost of the YouTube clip.
Metallica is currently in the midst of the final U.S. leg of its “M72” world tour. Next up, the band will play two nights in Minneapolis (is that Prince “doodle” coming up?) on August 16 and 18, with tickets for the remaining shows on the tour available. Available here.
