Metro Boomin returns to his hometown of St. Louis to honor his late mother.
The producer — who is fresh off two consecutive number-one albums — recently announced $100,000 in donations to five women-focused St. Louis nonprofits. According Variety, partnered with Rung for Women and Amazon Access to give Almost Home, Diamond Diva Empowerment Foundation, Haven of Grace, Little Bit Foundation and Parents as Teachers $20,000 each. The money will help women in need with things like debt, utilities, childcare and rent.
“I have seen firsthand the work that goes into being a single mother. Mine was my inspiration and my hero,” the producer said in a statement. “It's very important to me to pay it forward, because I see the same resilience and dedication in the women these organizations work with.”
Funds were raised during the Leslie Joanne Soirée gala event held at Rung in partnership with Amazon Access in December. “We are excited to work together Metro Boomin in his work to uplift single mothers in St. Louis,” said Rung President Leslie Gill. “Inspired by his remarkable love for his late mother, he demonstrates a commitment to women and our community.” Rung for Women is also Metro's fiduciary agent as it prepares to establish its own independent non-profit foundation.
Metro's late mother, Leslie Joanne Wayne, was a victim of domestic violence. In 2022, she was murdered by her husband, who then committed suicide. Ms. Wayne used to drive Metro from St. Louis to Atlanta during his early career so he could connect with rappers he knew online.
