Mew Break Up

The Mew split up. The Danish band will say goodbye and celebrate their 30th anniversary with a pair of concerts next year. Check out those tour dates and statements from the band and frontman Jonas Bjerre, below.

Singer Jonas Bjerre, drummer Silas Utke Graae Jørgensen, bassist Johan Wohlert and guitarist Bo Madsen formed Mew in 1995. They released their first studio album, A triumph for manin 1997, and eventually was under the Sony Music umbrella for albums including Frenger and they single him out And the Glass Kites. Madsen left Mew after 2015 + –and Mew went on to release just one studio album, in 2017 Optically.

Dear Frengers

Next year marks the 30th anniversary of Mew! It's been quite a journey, taking me and my wonderful bandmates on countless adventures, for which I am eternally grateful. And none of this could have happened if it weren't for you Frenzers and your support. This is something I have never taken for granted and never will.

For me this journey will come to an end. Next year will be my last year with Mew. I realized that it is time for me personally to start a different journey and focus on other creative projects. I am so happy that we are playing these farewell shows and that I can go on one last journey with my dear friends and co-founders Johan and Silas, as well as Doc and Mads Wegner. I will write a longer post about all of this soon. For now, I can't wait to see you out there at next year's shows!

30 years? No one would have imagined we'd still be here in 1995 when we started, making noise in Jonas's teenage bedroom. But we did it! Maybe we were out of our minds, on a mission. We dared to dream and dream big – together.

Today we've toured the world – played more shows than we can remember and yet it feels just like yesterday, sitting there in that noisy bedroom trying to be a band. We want to invite all our Frengers around the world to celebrate 30 years of being Mew. We are very excited to be playing these shows as they mark a really great occasion for us, for you and for Mew.
