MGMT's Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser sit down with Kyle Meredith to delve into their new album. Loss of life. Listen to the new episode above, or wherever you get your podcasts.
The duo unravels by embodying the album's title track, challenging themselves to find new levels of vulnerability in their lyrics and the wacky origins of songs like “Bubblegum Dog” and “Nothing Changes.” They also delve into how songs like “Little Dark Age” have taken on a second life in recent years.
“We're pretty good at expressing ourselves consistently in a way that's true to what we feel and what we like at the time in our music, but we're not very good at promoting it,” the band explains. “We take our time and it's okay if something doesn't land right away. It's cool to see how things have evolved over the years or [how] “People’s relationship with music has changed.”
