Mike Tyson recounts his intense training ahead of his fight with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on July 20. The fight, which will be shown on Netflix, will see the 57-year-old former undisputed heavyweight boxing champion take on the 27-year-old Paul in Iron Mike's first official fight in 19 years.
Although the famous hard-hitting champion has always shown formidable skills in the ring, he is training for the Paul fight with a little extra help from Tool singer Maynard James Keenan. The rocker posted photos with Tyson, who he said has been getting in shape training at the Cottonwood, AZ Verde Valley BJJ martial arts school. Keenan, who co-founded the gym, earned his black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu in January.
“My honor to have @Mike Tyson gifted our little town's academy, @verdevalleybjj . His Training Camp for @jakepaul vs @Mike Tyson started under our roof,” Keenan wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of himself with his arm around Tyson, with the singer's wife, Lei Li Keenan, on the other side. “I'll brag about it for a while. After a long time you are tired of hearing it. Deal with it,” Keenan added. A second shot featured Tyson and Keenan posing in the middle of the gym floor.
Tyson, a legendary boxer with a career record of 50-6 (including 44 knockouts), posts videos of his sweat intense workouts ahead of his first trip back to the ring since his controversial draw against former champion Roy Jones Jr. in November 202 in an exhibition match. It has been 21 years since Tyson's last win and both men are expected to take home big paydays for the top fight.
Former Bizaardvark Star Paul has gone from YouTube prank videos to Forbes' list as one of the world's highest-paid athletes, thanks to an unlikely 2018 spin in boxing. Since then, Paul has fought a number of MMA fighters, ex-pro boxers and basketball players leading him to a record of 9-1 (6 by KO), with his one loss coming at the hands of the only active boxer he has faced. date, Tommy Fury, in Feb. 2023.
Experienced troller Paul did his part to promote the fight, posting a video on Sunday in which he appeared to have his own version of Tyson infamous tribal face tattoo while biting a fake plastic ear in a reference to Tyson's 1997 fight where he bit part of Evander Holyfield's ear.
