MJ Lenderman has announced his new album, Manning Fireworks, which is due out September 6th via ANTI-. Along with the album announcement, Lenderman has shared the lead single “She’s Leaving You,” and its accompanying music video. Stream it below.
The follow-up to 2022’s acclaimed Boat Songs and last year’s live album And the Wind (Live and Loose), Manning Fireworks seemingly aims to double down on Lenderman’s irresistible folk rock stylings and clever, frank lyricism. The record also houses the 2023 single “Rudolph.”
Both the music and visuals of the new tune are as MJ Lenderman as possible. The track tells the story of a man cheating his way through a mid-life crisis over top heartfelt guitar solos, sing-along choruses, and an outro sung by Wednesday vocalist Karly Hartzman. In the video, they find themselves in the midst of a local talent show. Watch it below.
In addition to his work as MJ Lenderman, the guitarist and songwriter doubles as a member of Wednesday, the former Consequence CoSign who dropped the second-best release of 2023. He was also featured heavily on Waxahatchee’s new album, Tigers Blood, which we named the best record of 2024 so far. Talk about a hot streak!
