Morgan Wallen earns his 14th No. 1 Advertising signCountry Airplay chart (dated July 27) as “Cowgirls” gallops into the winner's circle. The track features Ernest, who earns his first lead as a recording artist, after nine as a songwriter.
The song advanced 6% to 33.7 million streams July 12-18, according to Luminate.
“Cowgirls” — written by Ernest, Rocky Block, Ashley Gorley, James Maddocks and Ryan Vojtesak — replaces Post Malone's “I Had Some Help,” featuring Wallen, at No. 2 (33 million, down less than 1%), after four frames over Country Airplay. Wallen becomes the second act in the chart's 34-year history to tie for back-to-back leaders. In surveys held on March 9 and 16, 2002, Tim McGraw first achieved the feat, appearing on Jo Dee Messina's “Bring on the Rain” and then his own “The Cowboy in Me.”
Meanwhile, Wallen marks a fourth week simultaneously holding the top two spots on the Country Airplay chart, extending his record for the longest such doubling.
Additionally, “Cowgirls” is from Wallen's 2023 LP One thing at a time, which dominated the Top Country Albums for 55 weeks. It is the sixth Country Airplay chart topper from the set, following “You Proof” (10 weeks), “Thought You Should Know” (three), “Last Night” (eight), “Man Made a Bar” featuring Eric Church (one week) and “Thinkin' Bout Me” (five).
The album is the second to generate six Country Airplay No. 1 without the aid of a deluxe edition, since Luke Bryan first earned the honor via his 2015 collection Kill the Lights. Counting the original (five No.1s) and deluxe editions (two), Luke Combs' 2019 set What you see is what you get yielded seven leaders.
